"Our family’s experience with Brookdale Oak Park Senior Living was extremely concerning. After meeting with the Sales Manager and arranging a nurse assessment for my father, I expected a clear and professional follow-up. Instead, when I reached out for an update, I was contacted by the Assistant Director, who spoke to me in a dismissive and aggressive way. I was told only that my father would be “better suited” for another facility. When I asked politely for clarification, she refused to provide any explanation, spoke to me disrespectfully, and ultimately hung up on me. This type of treatment is unacceptable from any senior living provider, let alone someone in leadership. Families making decisions about care deserve transparency, honesty, and compassion. As an African American family, I also cannot help but question whether bias contributed to how abruptly and disrespectfully we were treated. "In May it will be a year since our son Blaise found a home at the Summit of Uptown Park Ridge. What a blessing it was, that a room was available for him in the assistant’s living building at that time. Blaise has gone through many ups and downs since he moved in, but he is truly happy in his one-bedroom apartment. The nursing staff under the Care Director, Marinela B is outstanding. Up until this past Friday, Blaise liked to travel out of town, and it always entailed a lot of extra planning. All his Meds needed to be prepared, and he needed extra help and guidance in the preparations for his trips. The nursing staff has always been very efficient and helpful. But most of all is the help we get from Marinela. She has been such a comfort to us. No matter what time I walk into her office with another Blaise wish, she finds time for me and a solution. "An absolute nightmare and I would not recommend to anyone whose loved one needs memory care and has issues with daily living tasks like toileting. My mother stayed there from November 2021 until February 2023. We were promised the world when given a tour - the best food, best care, night motion detectors in case they get up at night, call button watches in case they need help, the works! Everything ended up being a catastrophic failure which was a combination of lack of empathy staff turnover, overpromising, and lack of problem solving from upper management. Food portions were really small if you didnt make it to the dining room, and if you didnt the food would be left alone in the room despite my Mom not being able to feed herself appropriately. 2-3 hours to answer the call buttons on her wrist watch or bathroom wall. "The staff is constantly changing. Food portions are that of a child size plate. Supplies that were delivered from Amazon for my dad have gone missing. We had 45 diapers six days later they were only 11 diapers left and they had gone through 240 adult wipes. Yesterday when my sister brought my dad back to memory care after spending the day at her house, they found somebody else in my dad‘s room sleeping in his bed. His room was locked and he had the key fob so the question is how did somebody get in my dad‘s bed. They have cameras in the room which they try to force you to pay for, so how did this happen?
