"Our family’s experience with Brookdale Oak Park Senior Living was extremely concerning. After meeting with the Sales Manager and arranging a nurse assessment for my father, I expected a clear and professional follow-up. Instead, when I reached out for an update, I was contacted by the Assistant Director, who spoke to me in a dismissive and aggressive way. I was told only that my father would be “better suited” for another facility. When I asked politely for clarification, she refused to provide any explanation, spoke to me disrespectfully, and ultimately hung up on me. This type of treatment is unacceptable from any senior living provider, let alone someone in leadership. Families making decisions about care deserve transparency, honesty, and compassion. As an African American family, I also cannot help but question whether bias contributed to how abruptly and disrespectfully we were treated. "An absolute nightmare and I would not recommend to anyone whose loved one needs memory care and has issues with daily living tasks like toileting. My mother stayed there from November 2021 until February 2023. We were promised the world when given a tour - the best food, best care, night motion detectors in case they get up at night, call button watches in case they need help, the works! Everything ended up being a catastrophic failure which was a combination of lack of empathy staff turnover, overpromising, and lack of problem solving from upper management. Food portions were really small if you didnt make it to the dining room, and if you didnt the food would be left alone in the room despite my Mom not being able to feed herself appropriately. 2-3 hours to answer the call buttons on her wrist watch or bathroom wall. The staff pretends to be friendly but beneath that phony exterior they just want to get the heck out of there as soon as possible. It's just a job to them. "NEGATIVE STARS. You will be told the Clare is one of the nicer facilities and it may be true for the nursing home portion however I have nothing nice to say regarding their rehab center. I met Amy the case manager to tour the facility and discuss what my mother had been through and the level of care she required. I was told the Clare was more than capable of handling her needs however that was a blatant lie. This is NOT an adequate rehabilitation facility for post hospitalization patients. The staff is under trained, under qualified and under staffed. I was incredibly clear on my mothers condition and the level of patience and care needed to keep her comfortable. Not only did they not respect our wishes; they did the exact opposite. They bullied my mother and when she asked them to please be more gentle with her and to stop hurting her she was told if she didn't like their treatment she could go back to the hospital.
