Our family’s experience with Brookdale Oak Park Senior Living was extremely concerning. After meeting with the Sales Manager and arranging a nurse assessment for my father, I expected a clear and professional follow-up. Instead, when I reached out for an update, I was contacted by the Assistant Director, who spoke to me in a dismissive and aggressive way. I was told only that my father would be “better suited” for another facility. When I asked politely for clarification, she refused to provide any explanation, spoke to me disrespectfully, and ultimately hung up on me. This type of treatment is unacceptable from any senior living provider, let alone someone in leadership. Families making decisions about care deserve transparency, honesty, and compassion. As an African American family, I also cannot help but question whether bias contributed to how abruptly and disrespectfully we were treated. This leaves me deeply concerned about how other families and residents may be treated.
