Often compared to a lovely boutique hotel, St. Nicholas Home in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, is a nonprofit independent living community for people ages 55 and older. This community is ideal for older people who are independent, but no longer want to live alone. St. Nicholas Home offers single and double rooms, with around-the-clock maid service. The rooms are cleaned daily, with fresh towels and linens provided. Residents have access to on-site laundry facilities for their personal laundry. The dining room offers three meals a day, with selections changing daily. Snacks are served throughout the day. The community features a sitting lounge on each floor, a television room, a beautiful dining room, and an on-site recreational specialist who conducts various activities and events daily. Among the activities are bingo, arts and crafts, exercise programs and dances. Also popular among residents are the shopping excursions and BBQ night. Scheduled transportation can be arranged for doctors’ appointments and other visits. Located between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue in the southwest portion of Brooklyn, St. Nicholas Home is situated across from an elementary school and within a family-friendly neighborhood that has a large elderly population. The main commercial strip with ethnic restaurants and stores is within walking distance. The monthly rent at St. Nicholas Home includes all meals and services.
