Mom was a resident of Lavender Skies – the memory care unit – for 14 months. As with most, making the decision for her move there was necessary, but emotionally difficult. My criteria for her care were a safe location, close enough for us to travel each day – which we did, we visited her daily – a caring and clean environment and a feeling of compassion from the employees at every level. Daily activities appropriate to memory care patients as well as balanced and nutritious food service were also important. MorningStar in Happy Valley was a perfect fit. The facility was at all times secure and immaculate. During times of covid outbreaks in the community, routinely scheduled testing was ongoing and this facility faced minimal ‘lockdowns’. At mom’s age in the upper 90’s, she was obviously in the endangered population. Her residence was well laid out and met her needs, accommodating her wheeled walker. All employees were cheerful, attentive to her needs and her personal preferences. Daily activities were always offered and encouraged, even tho mom’s physical limitations of sight and hearing made it difficult for her to participate. The Christian atmosphere of care and acceptance for one another, as well as the bible studies and church services was greatly appreciated. The meals served were exceptional, both in nutrition and presentation. Placemats and linens were used at every meal. The expression of personal dignity was exemplified. Our daily visits allowed us to develop deep relationships with the employees at all levels. From the concierge at the front door to each individual care manager, we were met with kindness and compassion. In the end, we were like family and shared in mom’s care and grieved in her passing. At the end of her life, she was on hospice. The attention paid to her, especially in her final hours was extraordinary. The Memory Care director was constantly present, attending to her physical and emotional needs, as well as myself at her last breath. Our experience at MorningStar was extremely positive and we highly recommend the ‘facility’
