White Rock Seniors Home

My Mom has been living at White Rock Seniors Home since December of 2020. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found White Rock Seniors Home. My mom is suffering from Alzheimer's/Dementia. Placing my mom in a home was one of the hardest things I've done, but seeing how Linda and the staff at White Rock treat my mom makes me feel that I made the right decision. My mom's illness makes her behavior unpredictable. She can get very upset, angry and confused. The staff handle these moments with grace and compassion and are always extremely kind and patient with my mom. Linda (the owner) takes a personal interest in the people she is caring for. She spends a lot of time with them and gets to know them individually. Linda is excellent at keeping me informed about my mom's health and her emotional state. She also engages my mom in activities - Linda and my mom recently planted a small garden in the backyard that my mom really enjoys. The reason I know that White Rock is doing a fantastic job of taking care of my mom is when I go to visit and my mom leans close and whispers to me that "The people here are taking really good care of me." Hearing that is such a relief it makes me cry. I can't thank Linda and White Rock enough for taking such excellent care of my mom.

The place maybe fine for a hospice patient, nurses check on them. For a loved one with dementia I would not recommend unless you can visit frequently and without notice. Linda, the owner does not believe in schedules so there is no set mealtime. Told they eat when they are hungry. People with dementia do better having a routine. When my 4 siblings would call they were usually told she had just had breakfast and was now sleeping whether they called at 9 or 11. When I or my sister would visit we would find her in bed but awake. She barely spoke and when taken to the bathroom always headed back to her bedroom. Linda took my mother’s pictures of my decease father and her and one of us, her children, off her bedside table because she talked to them. I believe was just trying to comfort herself. The curtains were always closed and the house dark except for the kitchen. I’ve only seen one other lady out of her room always just sitting at the kitchen table staring into space. I saw no activities. If the television was on the volume was off. We finally gave 30 days notice and had my mother in a memory care apartment within 8 days. My mother is now happy, talkative and engaging in activities. I actually cried when I was leaving watching her walk down the hall with her walker with her neighbor heading to help make holiday decorations.
