The reviewer placed their sister, who has Frontotemporal dementia, in Oakmont of Silver Creek's memory care unit in June 2021. Initially, they were pleased with the care she received. However, as the facility filled up, the quality of care declined due to inadequate staffing. Over the first year, there were seven different Executive Directors and high staff turnover, leading to a decrease in daily care. The reviewer's sister, who is incontinent and has dietary restrictions, was often neglected. Despite repeated discussions with the staff, her dietary needs were frequently overlooked. Her CPAP mask was also often incorrectly disassembled, causing air leaks. The management seemed unaware of these issues and did not regularly check the memory care unit. The facility tried to solve the staffing issue by discontinuing agency help, but they did not hire enough permanent caregivers, resulting in existing staff working double shifts. The reviewer decided to leave in August 2022 due to these unresolved issues and a poor caregiver-to-patient ratio. Two other families expressed similar concerns. The reviewer praised the caregivers for their hard work and empathy, but criticized the management for not adequately staffing the unit and not addressing the issues. They concluded that while Oakmont of Silver Creek is a beautiful, high-end facility suitable for independent living, they would not recommend it for assisted living or memory care.
