What families are saying

We’ve gathered and summarized real family reviews from across the internet for you. Contact a Seniorly representative for details.
Reviews of The Virginian/Holiday Virginian are generally positive, particularly regarding its attractive, spacious community and suitability for independent older adults. Residents and families frequently praise the well-maintained grounds, clean and comfortable apartments, natural lighting, attractive dining room, libraries, movie rooms, puzzle areas, and other common spaces. Apartment layouts, including one- and two-bedroom options, kitchenettes, patios, balconies, and ground-floor units, are considered appealing, although some reviewers found rooms smaller than expected. The location, parking, transportation to shopping and medical appointments, and proximity to hospitals and amenities are also valued. Staff are often described as friendly, caring, welcoming, informative, and attentive. Several reviewers felt like part of a family, appreciated staff knowing residents by name, and praised management, sales personnel, and chefs. Activities, musical entertainment, seasonal events, clubs, transportation, and opportunities to socialize are viewed positively, though some felt programming was geared toward more active residents and needed more options for people with dementia or limited mobility. Dining experiences vary considerably. Many reviewers enjoyed the meals and restaurant-like setting, while others reported limited variety, cold or poor-quality food, missing condiments, incorrect room deliveries, shortages, and insufficient dining staff. Housekeeping and maintenance were also inconsistent, with complaints about infrequent cleaning, dirty dishes, pests, and facility renovations. Several reviewers mentioned frequent management and staff turnover, although some felt conditions improved under new leadership. Cost was considered high by some families. Most importantly, The Virginian is primarily an independent-living community and may not meet the needs of residents requiring substantial assistance, hospice, or assisted living. Overall, it is highly recommended for capable, socially active seniors, but prospective residents should carefully assess care needs, staffing stability, dining quality, and costs.

We visited several facilities before deciding on Carmichael Estates. We chose them over another facility that had a full-time nurse. We could tell right away that this is where our mom should be. All of the staff took care of her like she was a part of their family. Choosing Carmichael Estates, what’s the best decision we made for placing our mom, Alejandra and Rebecca and their amazing staff made our mom Barbara’s last few months happy. She was always smiling and laughing, which was not the case that her previous place. We highly recommend Carmichael Estates for your loved one.
