My aunt is in an assisted living community and living off veterans spouse benefits. What happens when this money runs out? Does she need to apply for state assistance?

Hi Michele, thanks for asking! Your aunt should not run out of her veterans spouse benefits, as they will continue to cover her as long as she needs care. If she does apply for state assistance such as Medicare, however, she will need to notify the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (www.va.gov/) and they will adjust her pension accordingly. For more information, visit www.benefits.va.gov/pension/spousepen.asp

Hope this helps!
