Do you believe in giving back to your community? So does Seniorly; that’s why we created this helpful guide to San Francisco’s best upcoming volunteer opportunities. With the holidays right around the corner, there’s no better time to get out and engage with older citizens in need of socialization or a helping hand. The Seniorly team can be found at a variety of fundraising and outreach events in the San Francisco Bay Area. We hope to see you there!

Little Brothers SF

Socialization is so important for seniors who want to remain happy and engaged as they age. The Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly San Francisco chapter matches local volunteers with elder friends to form lasting bonds that can help alleviate social isolation.

As a Little Brothers SF volunteer, you will have the chance to participate in home visits, parties, elder birthday visits, special excursions, internships and more. Upcoming volunteer opportunities include Thanksgiving home visits on November 26th, a Holiday party on December 12th and Holiday home visits on December 25th.

If you are interested in becoming a Little Brothers volunteer, visit their website to sign up for the next volunteer orientation event. If you are interested in volunteering as part of a group or have specific questions, contact their local office at (415) 771-7957.

Open Hand

By volunteering for Open Hand this holiday season, you will have the chance to provide meals for those in need. Upcoming events include morning and afternoon meal preparation; volunteers will peel, chop, slice, and dice food that will go into their meals with love. Volunteers may also assist with meal assembly and transportation. A valid driver's license and insurance are required for those volunteering their vehicles for the driving route.

To sign up to be an Open Hand volunteer, visit their website or call their volunteer hotline at (415) 447-2404.

Self-Help for the Elderly

This volunteer program hosts many events and activities throughout the year. Volunteers help host special events, engage with senior outreach programs or stop in when it’s most convenient for them. For people who work during the weekdays but still want to help out, Self-Help also has many weekend and evening opportunities for participation.

If you are interested in working directly with seniors on a regular basis, Self-Help can assign you to a program that fits your interests and schedule. Opportunities include helping out at a local senior center, general office work (data entry, etc.), tutoring and staffing a phone line. If you would like to volunteer on an on-call basis, you can also sign up for short-term projects with Self-Help. The organization does its best to assign volunteers to events that interest them.

If you would like to become a volunteer for Self-Help for the Elderly, signing up is easy! Simply call their volunteer coordinator at 415-677-7600 or visit their website for more information.

Seniorly stays connected with all of San Francisco’s elderly volunteer opportunities so we can give back to a community that’s been so supportive of our mission. For more up-to-date information on upcoming local events, follow Seniorly’s Facebook page
