It’s been a week since Seniorly officially announced its launch in the LA market, and we want to keep you updated on the transition. We are now working with nearly 50 communities in the area of West Los Angeles, with more signing up everyday!
LA resident and Seniorly Co-Founder Jorge Speede will spend most of his time working in the field and connecting with local families and businesses in LA. Jorge is extremely personable, passionate and motivated to help others. He has been in the senior care industry for nearly 10 years, and is eager to draw upon this experience to bring positive impact to the families and communities we serve.
Between visiting communities and talking with housing providers and social workers, Jorge took the time to answer a few interview questions for this article. He had so many exciting updates to share with the Seniorly Team! Here are some of the highlights:
Q. What have you enjoyed most about working with the LA community?
A. The LA market has welcomed me everywhere I go! One of my favorite parts of working in LA are the friendly people I get to interact with on a daily basis. It was particularly amazing for me to be able to help out two local families that were in need of VA benefits to access senior housing. They are now on their way to finding the right elder care community!
Q. Have you had any particularly memorable experiences so far?
A. The most memorable moment for me was just the other day. I walked into a Skilled Nursing Facility and was waiting for the doctor to finish up with a patient. When the patient came out, he asked me about LA housing options and we connected right on the spot! I introduced myself and told him all about Seniorly; we ended up talking for the next hour with two Social Services attendants and I was able to educate them on the VA benefits available and options for accessing housing.
B. On my way out of an Assisted Living Community in Los Angeles, where I was speaking with the staff about Seniorly and our services, I ran into a woman I helped out two years ago while her husband was sick. She didn’t recognize me at first, but I remembered her and had actually just been thinking about the couple earlier last week. It seemed too perfect to be a coincidence, and we spoke about how Peter would have wanted us to reconnect after so long, so that I could ensure she was happy and engaged.
We had the chance to catch up together over dinner and I promised to come back and sing for her and her friends at their community sometime.
Q. What are you most looking forward to about our transition into the LA market?
A. I love to be challenged! Whenever I enter into a market that is unknown, I am nervous because everything’s so new, but I also get a thrill out of who I may encounter and what opportunities lie in each new relationship I establish. I hope to build connections with many of the social workers and case managers in the area. I hope they see the value that Seniorly offers for their families and themselves as advocates.
