About the Staff at Heritage On The Marina

There’s a difference between simply “providing care” and “caring”. At Heritage on the Marina, we provide a high staff to resident ratio at every level of care – allowing us to provide uniquely personalized care. While most residents live independently in our Residential Living level, residents are not separated from the community when their health care needs increase.

Residents requiring the higher care levels provided by Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing continue to feel they’re a part of our family. Even in the Health Center, our home-like atmosphere prevails to comfort both body and spirit.

Owner's Story

Heritage on the Marina is proud to be one of San Francisco’s longest-serving retirement communities. It is a non-profit corporation owned and operated by the San Francisco Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society, one of California’s oldest philanthropic organizations, since 1853.

Our land site was originally part of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Following this renowned World’s Fair, a generous benefactor donated the empty block to the Ladies’ Protection and Relief Society. Julia Morgan, California’s first woman architect, designed the main building, completed in 1925. The Heritage site continues to be lovingly maintained and upgraded.
