WE WELCOME YOU If it feels like home when you walk in the door at The Lake Merritt, it is because of the energy and vision that we have dedicated to the property since we acquired it over 25 years ago! That home-like feeling has come from our love for this unique place, one of Oakland’s treasured, historic landmarks. You will notice our attention to detail, the elegance of our light-filled spaces and well-designed comforts. All have been created to make your living at The Lake Merritt a pleasure. As 3rd & 4th generation Oaklanders, we are hands-on owners and you will see us and our family members here a lot. We laughingly say that sometimes we are here so much that the lobby is like our living room and the Terrace Room Restaurant is our dining room. The Lake Merritt came into being because we fell in love with the building and haven’t let go. We helped save it from a condo developer’s wrecking ball and our efforts have transformed it into one of the most beloved and special places in Oakland. It’s complete with top-notch amenities, healthy cuisine, a dining room with a fantastic view and wonderful caring employees. We provide independent senior living in a gracious environment to age in place. You can call it home. The Lake Merritt is located across the street from Lake Merritt - Oakland’s spectacular 140-acre park and national wildlife sanctuary. The location is just steps away from Bay Area transportation, including BART and AC transit, along with convenient shopping, business and cultural attractions. Lake Merritt has recently received a $198 million renewal and now boasts: 3.1 miles of shoreline complete with shady, tree-lined boulevards Brand-new walking paths and bike ways A lakeside park with sailing, dragon boating, rowing Bocce and a lawn bowling club Seven acres of demonstration and community gardens Two nature centers Historic bandstand for summer concerts and more The Lake Merritt's spacious apartment homes offer many charms and conveniences for older adult living, including: Multiple Sizes and Floor Plans Full Kitchens High-Ceilings with Crown Moldings Designer Wall Colors Wall-to-Wall Carpets Abundant Closet Space Walk-in Showers Enchanting Views of the Lake or the City’s Skyline.

We were looking for a place in the East Bay and this place came highly recommended. It was beautiful. There is a restaurant that over looks the Lake Merritt, and serves great food (actually an open restaurant to the public). The rooms are a bit small, and its pretty expensive cause it doesn't include much in the rent like some of the other places.
