The first words out of my mother’s mouth when she arrived in the room for rehab was “This place is a dump!”. There was nothing on the wall facing the bed other than a TV and a very crooked mounted wall holder for the activity calendar. There was no shelf or place to put pictures of family or vase of flowers that she could see from her bed to help cheer and motivate her. The bathroom appeared clean, but a strong smell of urine was always present. In addition to the room being totally depressing, not even one chair was present in the room for a visitor to sit. Missing also was the portable thermostat (finally brought days later from another room) or bed controls (brought to the room 2 weeks later again from another room) that my mother could use. Shortage of equipment continued with the staff struggling to locate foot rests for the wheel chair. We had difficulty getting the facility to add nutritional supplements to her diet until over a week after we requested this.
