Seniorly - ‘The Airbnb for Senior Living Options’ - Announces Expansion to San Diego Area, Bringing Easy-To-Use Platform to Local Seniors
San Diego, CA -- Today, Seniorly.com, an online platform that empowers families to make better decisions when searching for senior housing options and caregivers, announced an expansion of their services into San Diego, California. The San Francisco-startup’s new tool makes finding and booking short-term care stays at assisted living communities for seniors as simple and easy as booking a place to stay on Airbnb. November is National Family Caregivers Month and short-term care (also known as “respite”) stays are a helpful option for family caregivers who need a short break from their caregiving duties or while the person they’re caring for needs a higher level of care as they recover from an illness or surgery.
“What most families don’t realize is that many senior communities provide short-term care services to give family caregivers a much-needed break and ensure their loved one is receiving quality care in a safe, welcoming environment,” said Seniorly CEO Arthur Bretschneider. “Seniorly is excited to bring this new easy to use tool to San Diegans.”
In 2015, 13.1% of San Diego County residents, were age 65 and older. By 2050 it will be 20% - that’s one in five San Diegans. A recent poll of 200 family caregivers found that 64 percent have been providing care for more than two years, and 59 percent of those caregivers hadn’t taken a vacation or a meaningful break in over a year.
"Caregiving can be a rewarding experience. It is also demanding and caregivers need time to re-charge and take a break,” said Katie Croskrey, Executive Director San Diego and Imperial County Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. “Many caregivers are reluctant to focus on their own needs and may go too long without asking for help. Respite care provides relief and is a benefit for both the caregiver and the person with dementia. It is important for the caregiver to take care of themselves also. Respite care can provide the time for caregivers to take care of their own health so they can ultimately provide better care for the person with dementia."
Since launching in 2014, Seniorly has helped match hundreds of families with senior housing communities by bringing more information about living options online than any other site. The online platform that has been called the “Yelp for senior living options” provides ratings, reviews and video tours for over 50 communities in San Diego.
“Seniorly brings transparency and ease of use to a process that can be overwhelming for many families. The platform makes finding a senior living community as easy as booking an Airbnb,” said Josh Buller, President of Cornerstone Senior Living, which manages Plaza Village Senior Living in San Diego. “Plaza Village is excited to partner with Seniorly to bring this vital service to San Diego’s seniors and their loved ones. We’re thrilled to welcome them to our city.”
Seniorly’s platform lets users take virtual video tours of communities, check out reviews, compare costs, book in-person tours and even pay for the short-term stay all through the easy-to-use site. The new platform also allows senior communities to update their room availability and pricing, quickly, easily and in real-time.
“At Seniorly, our goal is to provide families with as much information as they need to navigate the difficult, and often emotional process of finding senior housing for their loved ones,” said Bretschneider. “Seniorly brings the outdated senior housing search process into the 21st century -- and we are thrilled to bring our services to San Diego seniors and their families.”
Earlier this year, Seniorly expanded their services to Los Angeles and Sacramento.
