Residential care homes are places that are licensed to provide care to small groups of adults over age 60. They got the name because they’re private homes in the middle of regular neighborhoods, converted and staffed for group living.
Residents usually get a higher level of care than in assisted living, but less care than in nursing homes. Because there are usually six or fewer residents, each person gets more attention from the staff and the care is more personalized.
