About Abernethy Laurels

Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, the nonprofit Abernethy Laurels in Newton, North Carolina, is a continuing care retirement community offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation. Owned and operated by the Christian ministry, United Church Homes and Services, this community is ideal for older adults with a love for life who want to stay active and engaged as they age in place. In the independent living community, residents have their choice of living in a two bedroom, two bath cottage or villa, or a one or two bedroom apartment. The cottages and villas include all major appliances, bathrooms with safety features, cable television service, exterior maintenance and lawn care, a private porch or sunroom and a carport or garage. The residential living apartments feature a full kitchen and private patio. Both accommodations provide around-the-clock emergency assistance and each resident receives 12 nurse visits per year. The assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation areas provide health care services tailored to meet each resident’s needs. Accommodations include a private room or suite, three meals a day, personal assistance, housekeeping, daily activities and 24-hour staffing. The 120-acre wooded campus features a fitness and wellness center, gift shop, bank, hair salon, computer center, bistro, fireside library, resident garden and walking trails. The community center offers a daily schedule of activities that includes a mix of cultural, educational, social, recreational and spiritual happenings. Abernethy Laurels uses a fee-for-service approach, so the monthly fee is based on the services and meal options the resident selects.
